“Never let the enemy know your next move.” This appears to be the motto of Woody’s Wings N Things, which at first glance appears to be a standard all-American wings place, complete with a questionably proportioned animal mascot. However, don’t allow the name of the restaurant or its humble exterior deter you. Woody’s Wings N Things is actually one of the most delicious Southeast Asian restaurants in Denver, serving a variety of food from Cambodian, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Laos cuisine.
To put it simply, Woody’s Wings N Things is an experience like no other. The interior truly lives up to the idea of keeping the guests on their toes, with wooden paneling along the walls, a retro red carpet, matching red drapes, and gorgeous chandeliers dangling from the ceiling. When seated, guests are handed a thick binder that looks more like an encyclopedia than a menu. This is arguably one of the best points of the restaurant, because the menus come with colorized pictures for every single dish, which is extremely helpful for people not familiar with Southeast Asian cuisine.
There’s no need to fear the wide variety though, because you won’t go wrong with anything you order there. I recently ordered the beef pad thai and was immensely satisfied by how the dish was still steaming as it arrived. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the sliced lime garnishing the plates added the right touch of acidity to cut through the noodles and beef.
As if there aren’t enough surprises about the place, Woody’s Wings N Things actually does sell wings—just not the American kind. They serve Szechuan wings, crispy Thai style-wings with red pepper, and lemongrass chicken wings, all of which are incredibly popular and tasty. I got the crispy Thai wings with red pepper, and they were perfectly battered so that it was a light and crispy coating that still housed a wonderful flavor. The chicken was wonderfully moist and well-cooked, making it truly a mouth-watering dish.
Overall, Woody’s Wings N Things serves extraordinary food at reasonable prices, with sizable portions and a wide variety on the menu, truly a hidden gem.
