Travel Guide to Colorado

Regis Highlander November 19, 2020

With our campus being in such a beautiful state, we thought that we should share some of our favorite places to go in Colorado. You might want to add these places to your Colorado bucket list.

Sarah Gomez:

A personal summer favorite of mine is Breckenridge, it's an hour and a half drive from campus but it is absolutely amazing. This is an autumn must see for the changing leaves, and if you're looking for a fun halloween activity, there are ghost tours offered both during the day and evening.

Amy Reglin:

If you are looking for a weekend getaway or a quick day trip then Leadville is the place for you. Once an old mining town, the feel is still there. I love Leadville for the fact that it is just over 2 hours from campus, and an easy drive. Mountain High Pies has some of the best pizza and wings I have ever had. Leadville is also home to the world's largest saloon. Check AirBnB for some super cute tiny homes, too.

Carly Compesi:

One of my favorite hikes that I did this year was Sky Pond, which is part of Rocky Mountain National Park. We arrived early enough to see some amazing stars in the morning and watch the sunrise while on the trail, which I highly recommend for those of you with headlamps. To get to the very top, you have to climb up the side of a waterfall, but even as someone with a fear of heights, I consider the view to be worth the climb.

Morgan Jacobus:

A fun place my roommate and I went to is the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. It is a beautiful area, and there are different trails and hikes you can go on depending on how far you want to hike and what you want to see. It was about an hour and a half from campus, so it is not too far, but makes for a fun day adventure. Bring some water and snacks, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Snowshoeing Photo Essay

Regis Highlander January 24, 2020

Who says hiking fun has to stop when there is snow on the ground? Thanks to the Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP), it doesn’t have to. OAP offers gear rental year-round including snowshoes, which means when you and your friends want to hike on the weekend but there’s two feet of fresh powder you still can.

Snowshoes work by giving your feet a larger surface area which enables you to float on top of the snow instead of sinking into the fresh snow. Another great resource when planning your snowy hike is the All Trails app. This app allows you to search for trails, download offline maps, and read comments about other hikers recent trips.

Head into the OAP office Monday—Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. or Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to check out snowshoes or any other gear you may need. Remember to practice safe hiking techniques whenever you hike!

Rangers fall in the RMAC Championship

Regis Highlander November 18, 2019

Friday night, the men’s soccer team played the Colorado School of Mines for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship title. In a thrilling, hard fought game the rangers forced overtime with a goal late in the second half. Going into overtime tied at 1-1. Following two periods of overtime, the game was still tied, forcing a shootout. It was nine rounds of nail biting shoutouts in which Mines ultimately took the victory. Good job to our Rangers for a hard fought game and a great season.

OAP Halloween Climbing Competition

Regis Highlander November 4, 2019

By: Amy Reglin, Lead Photographer

Wednesday evening, the Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) hosted a Halloween climbing competition in the fitness center. Participants had the option of climbing as many of the 21 routes they wanted. The routes are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced with points awarded for the accuracy of the climb. Winners were selected from each of the three categories. However, that’s not all the fun, it was also a costume contest, with the best costume winning a prize as well.

Sophomore Doris Huguley, who started climbing about a year ago with the Regis climbing club, said her favorite part of OAP climbing competitions, “Is the environment and community that comes together for a friendly little climb, people who don’t climb and people who do just spending quality time together is A-one.”

Men’s soccer Photo Essay

Regis Highlander October 20, 2019

On a chilly Sunday afternoon, the men’s soccer team hosted Adams State University. Despite the cold, the men pushed through for a 5-1 win. This win comes off of a loss on Friday that snapped their four-game win streak. The win was a perfect way to end the last home game for the season. The Rangers still have four games left in the regular season before heading to the RMAC tournament.
