With midterms quickly approaching, Regis University’s Student Government Association (RUSGA) has started off the school year throwing student-focused events. With the pressures of college, there are many opportunities on campus to participate in ongoing events to relieve stress and connect with fellow students.

Recently hosted by RUSGA, the event “Don’t Feel Iffy With Miffy” celebrated self-improvement month and further gave students a space to relax and enjoy snacks and activities provided throughout the event. Polaroid photos were taken of students, fidget toys and miffy pins were given away, and there was a prize of a miffy night light given at the end. Conchas, Dunkin sample refreshers, and $5 Dunkin Donuts gift cards were also provided during the event, as students engaged, shared a sweet treat, and had a fun time.

A junior at Regis that attended the event shared with me that events on campus that are community and activity based are not only important for the campus culture but the mental health of students. “I enjoy attending campus events not just only for the free items but to also  interact with other students, and it gives me a break from class time and homework.” With the student government hosting different student focused events, students find these activities as an outlet to unwind, spend time socializing with friends and other students, and recharge for a moment.

As the school year progresses, stress levels increase with mid-terms, quizzes, and final exams upcoming. Events that are mental-health related give opportunities for students to take care of their mental health. The student government's efforts of throwing an event dedicated towards self-improvement assists in students reflecting on their personal habits and growth which is important in cultivating cura personalis which means to care for the whole person.

The flyers that promoted the event targeted students who may be feeling overwhelmed and anxious, and how they can find small ways to take care of their well-being by interacting with  campus activities. With the school year continuing, RUSGA is throwing a senate meeting on  October 5th in Claver Hall room 315 from 7:00-8:30 p.m informing students on what's happening around campus and additional future events. You can also follow RUSGA on Instagram @regis_rusga and keep in tune with updates on Campus Groups.
