On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the Regis women’s soccer team took on the University of New Mexico Highlands, looking to increase their win streak to six straight games. Being ranked 21st in the country, their confidence and determination looked apparent throughout the whole match.

Within the first two minutes of the game, sophomore Tori Rinsem scored being assisted by junior Bethany Hohnstein and put the Rangers up 1-0 just minutes into the game. They ended the first half with their 1-0 lead and didn’t hesitate to capitalize on their lead in the second half. The Lady Rangers scored five goals in the second half, with all six goals being scored by six different players.

The game was nothing short of exciting, as they remain undefeated throughout the year and look to rise up in the national rankings. The next game for the women’s team will be on October 13th, as they host Black Hills State University and have their final four regular-season games on the road.

The men’s soccer team got back in the right direction with their 2-0 shutout win at South Dakota School of Mines. They are now looking at a record of 6-4 and a RMAC record of 4-4. The Rangers scored a goal in the first half of the game and closed the game with another goal with seven minutes left. Sawyer Lincoln and Ryan Ebert both assists as Oliver Haines and Will Eslinger were both able to put one in the back of the net. A very satisfying win for this men’s team as they return home on October 13th to face Fort Lewis College.

RUBOS: Connecting Students to the Business of Sports

The Regis University Business of Sports Club hosts networking events throughout the school year to connect students to sports and business.

(Photo: Frances Meng-Frecker)

On April 11 in the Mountain View Room, the Regis University Business of Sports Club, led by Ethan Beaudoin and Marco Burciaga, held an event from 6-8 pm. They hosted three incredibly qualified individuals to discuss the logistics behind sports and production. With the right mindset and work ethic, they explain that you can succeed in the competitive and time-consuming fields of sports journalism, event operations and display systems.

Casey Light, who is the general manager of Mile High Sports, discussed how he ended up in the occupation he is in. He played one year of college baseball before realizing that he wasn’t getting what he wanted out of it and transferred to receive his degree in English. He wanted to be an English teacher, but in searching for a career, he landed in sports radio. He said that he “listened to sports talk radio” while in the car and found an internship, which is what let him to where he is today.

Eli Madden is the Director of Ticket Sales and Services for the Colorado Mammoth Lacrosse team. Madden went to the University of Minnesota and after graduating, he started an internship organizing snowmobile and ATV races. That internship gave him enough experiences to grow into event operations, which is how he partnered with the Colorado Mammoth and says he, “loves the business side of sports.”

Tabor Chapman of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment played soccer for 18 years, and was very interested in sports and production. He dj’d for the Denver Nuggets before switching to display systems. Chapman explained that, “Everything I did growing up prepared me for this job.”

The event an amazing opportunity for those who attended to get some important insight in the sports world and to get it firsthand from those who are most apart of that system! The Regis University Business of Sports Club hosts networking events throughout the school year to connect students to sports and business. Students who are interested in getting involved can contact Ethan Beaudoin at wbeaudoin@regis.edu.

NCAA Championship

With the national championship over, there is now only one team that can define themselves as the best, and that team is the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

What a month it was! This month of March was filled with exciting basketball, unbelievable finishes, and one team that was on top of them all. With the national championship over, there is now only one team that can define themselves as the best, and that team is the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

With the matchup between Gonzaga and North Carolina, you couldn’t expect anything better than two 1 seeds battling it out for the official number one spot. This was the first national championship the Gonzaga Bulldogs had ever been in in school history, and they came out like they had something to prove. North Carolina also had a chip on their shoulder after being defeated the previous year off a buzzer beater against Villanova.

It was such an incredible performance by both teams, with many lead changes and two teams competing to the best of their ability to make a name for themselves. North Carolina ended with a 5-0 run to seal the win 71-65 and to win its 6th NCAA championship, third all time.

With players declaring for the draft and seniors graduating to pursue bigger things, we can expect a much different year next year, something we believe will happen every year but in reality, March Madness will always be madness.

March Madness Final Four

It is the moment we have all been waiting for, the Final Four teams in the tournament are set to battle it out in the National Championship.

(VOA News)

It is the moment we have all been waiting for, the Final Four teams in the tournament are set to battle it out in the National Championship.

North Carolina, who is making a back-to-back appearance to the final, is now about to be in their 20th Final Four in program history. That is more than the other three teams combined. There might be favorites in this year’s Final Four, but anything is possible in the NCAA tournament, as we have seen this year with the 7th seed South Carolina, being in their first Final Four in program history.

The Gamecocks have been incredibly hot this tournament, beating an incredibly talented Duke team and crushing Baylor by twenty points in the Sweet Sixteen. The other two teams are Gonzaga and Oregon, who have displayed very strong performances throughout the whole tournament.

The madness continues this Saturday, April 1st. South Carolina takes on Gonzaga while North Carolina is set to play Oregon. Be sure to watch these high energy basketball games to get ready for the anticipated championship game.

Bracket Busting Performances

With upsets all over the place and millions of brackets already busted, it is fair to say that we are anticipating an even better finish during the rest of the month.

(Photo: VOA News)

During the spring college basketball season, performances have been nothing less than spectacular throughout the entire tournament. With upsets all over the place and millions of brackets already busted, it is fair to say that we are anticipating an even better finish during the rest of the month.

On the East, two of the biggest upsets in the tournament occurred: seventh seed South Carolina beating the second seed Duke, reaching their first Sweet Sixteen in school history, and the eighth seed Wisconsin beating the first seed and defending national champions, Villanova.

Duke had been favored in winning the tournament in 2.3 million brackets, via ESPN. Michigan, ranked as a seventh seed team, have been on a hot streak after winning the Big 10 tournament and they knocked off second seed Louisville on Sunday to keep their hot streak going.

It has been such an eventful couple of weeks and many viewers are on the edge of their seats as they watch their bracket boom or bust. The Sweet Sixteen games fall on Thursday, March 23 and Friday, March 24. Best of luck to everyone’s bracket, and Happy March Madness!
